MISSION REPORT
01/03/2012
United States Air Force Texas Army National Guard Restland Coppell Chapel/ DFW National Cemetery |
||||||||||||
First of all, I want to thank the riders who participated in todays mission for their dedication to the Patriot Guard and what we do to honor these American
heroes.
We staged at Restland Coppell Chapel, held a briefing, and set the flag line. About 11:45, we broke down the flag line, held a safety briefing, and prepared for the procession to DFW National Cemetery. After rendering honors at the chapel, it was KSU for the procession which was an event itself. At DFW National
Cemetery, we stood the flag line at shelter C. Respectfully,
John "Ghostrider" Blase |

7 PGR Members staged at Center Pointe Church of Christ in Dallas. The temperature was in the 30's at staging time. We unfurled flags and staged them around the entrance in
preparation for receiving family and guests. After the service began, we furled the flags and stowed them away. There was a lag time of about 2 hours between the beginning of service and the departure of the procession to DFW National Cemetery. The procession departed the Church at 1:25 pm and arrived at Shelter A at 2:10 pm. We where met by 23 more PGR members for a total of 30. Respectfully,
Carlton "Cruiser" Emmons |

This morning, as I moved to the funeral home, I was thinking, it's Thursday, 33 degrees, 7:30 AM, and if I will be the only one standing the flag line? Not today. When I arrived, there were three veteran PGR riders and two new men waiting to honor Staff Sgt Wilson. We also had a Blue Star Dad with us. After briefing was conducted, we honored Staff Sgt Wilson and family with a flag line. After we finished the flag line, we proceeded to Braum's for coffee and chow and to visit with our new riders. God always has a way to make any day a good day. Respectfully,

The PGR staged at the Information Center at DFW National Cemetery
and held a briefing. Four big flag bikes waited for the arrival of SSGT Wilson and guest, while the other riders proceeded to the assigned shelter and put out the flags. SSGT Wilson and guest arrived, the flag was folded and presented to the next of kin. After a short service, the flags were furled, a debriefing was held, and the PGR were dismissed. Respectfully,

The remains of this vet were brought in on the back of a Harley escorted by four Iron Pigs M/C. The daughter was unaware what happens at a PGR Mission. I explained to her we would lead her to the shelter with four big flag bikes and that the Honor Guard would refold her flag for her. After the flag and plaque presentation, the daughter was lost for words to express her appreciation for our mission. Even the Iron Pigs M/C was very impressed with the operations of the PGR. United States Army WWII Combat Veteran Ennis, Texas |
||||||||||||
With only three hours notice, the Patriot Guard Riders once again rose to the occasion and were there to honor a true American Hero and provide incredible comfort to a grieving family and community. There are too many stories to tell about today, how in 1959, one of our Riders was coached in Little League by Mr. Gentry - that same Rider presented the folded flag to Mrs. Gentry. A Gold Star Mother/Patriot Guard Rider clerked under Mr. Gentry's sister when she was a judge. Another Rider befriended Mr. Gentry in his later years and was the point of contact for the family's request. It was an incredible day. All who attended on both sides of the Flag Line were honored. Respectfully,

Mr. Gustafson had been on a "Remembrance Trip" to Viet Nam where he was severely wounded as a Marine while serving there 40 years ago. He was mistreated and spit on and called names when he came home the first time. This time, we helped see to it that he had a proper Hero's welcome home. Respectfully,

We staged at Peters Funeral Home at 10:00, unfurled our flags, held our briefing, then manned the flag line and waited for SGT Roach’s family and friends to arrive. After the service started, we furled our flags, held the riders briefing, and stood by for
the procession to DFW National Cemetery. LEO left us at the Greenville, TX, city limits and we continued on to DFW
National Cemetery. Upon arrival at DFW National Cemetery, four big flag bikes escorted the coach into the staging lane at the
Information Center, while the others joined the rest already at the shelter. Once the coach arrived at the shelter, the flag was folded, Taps was sounded, and the flag was presented. After a short service the flags were furled and stowed, a debriefing was held, a prayer was issued and we were dismissed. Respectfully,

Once again the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders stood tall and silent for an American Hero, Chief Hyman Runkle, USN (ret.) This mission was significant in that Chief Runkle's nephew rode his bike - PROUDLY WEARING HIS PGR VEST - from Carlsbad, NM. This was his second mission and he was totally overcome, as were the rest of the family.

Riders met at the information center where they were briefed. A few riders were sent to shelter B to assist with another service that nearly coincided with the Ward mission. Two big flag bikes provided the escort to the shelter. The remaining riders then went to shelter A to wait for the family.

We staged at the Church at 10:00am and I held a briefing at 10:15. We set and manned the flag line. Once the service began, we broke down the flag line. Several riders ate lunch across the street while others attended the luncheon at the church. We then joined the procession to DFW National Cemetery. There were 12 bikes at the church and 14 more at the Cemetery. The family was amazed with all the riders and flags at both the church and the Cemetery.
