Ladies and Gentlemen,
We need to make a correction to the Mission Guidelines. I have already sent
our web-bubba a request to correct the on-line version and I know he will
get it done as soon as he can.
The correction will come under the "Riding In A Procession" section, bullet
#6. That section talks about running with your emergency flashers (hazard
lights) on during the procession. We will remove the first sentence
completely and replace it with; "Use of stock emergency flashers (hazard
lights) is optional."
The reason for the change is that it has been brought to my attention by a
number of riders that some have experienced significant problems with their
emergency flashers when using them for extended periods as well as the fact
that some manufacturers recommend not using the flashers for long periods of
time. Some aftermarkets may not warranty the units if they are used in this
manner. It is certainly not our intent to damage anybody's equipment, void
warranties, etc., so the emergency flasher use is now optional. The rest of
the paragraph remains unchanged. Any other type of lighting is still
included in the rest of that paragraph. We don't road guard and we aren't
police (or fire department or ambulance or similar) - nor do we play them on
TV. We are who we are, and that's plenty.
Thanks to everyone for reading the guidelines and for helping us as we're
trying to implement and re-implement them. Yesterday's mission was a good
reminder, especially to me, of things I'd forgotten. Several of you
reminded me ever so gently of an "oversight" or two on my part. Good for
you!! Thank you. I promise I'll do better next time.
For everyone who is going to celebrate the coming of the new year, and for
some people I know that might take up the better part of the next few days,
please stay healthy and safe.
Thank you.
Steve Lucas
