Many of you know Harold and Terri Tranter. They are two of our PGR members here in North Texas. Harold is our web master. Terri is his daughter and both can be seen at every mission it is humanly possible for them to attend. Both are veterans. Just this past Saturday, Cris Tranter passed away. Cris is Harold's son, Terri's brother. Cris was divorced and was raising his two children. He had been injured about six years ago in a motorcycle accident when struck by a drunk driver and had been unable to work since then. I know you share my great sorrow for this loss. Cris didn't serve in the military and I ask that you please say a prayer for Cris, his two children, Harold, Terri and the rest of the family. After what we've all seen so many times we can imagine how tragic it must be for a parent to have to see a child pass away and only those among us who have experienced it can know that pain. Two of our family members are hurting and I know you are reaching out to them with your hearts to hold them close, and I'm also sure that on some level they feel that. Thank you. I'm sure that everyone who was in the PGR then remembers the tragic crash of the helicopter in Iraq where 6 members of the 2-149th were killed. When 3 of these brave crew members came home to North Texas, one of our own from the N. TX PGR was on board the transport plane and many of our own were on hand to meet these brave crew members and see them to their final resting places. I will use no names of our people in this message.all were vital to these missions. The North Texas PGR was present when this unit left the armory. We met many of them and their families and we rode with them in escort from Grand Prairie to Bowie and we look forward to being with them again when they come home. Many of us in N. TX feel a closeness to the 2-149th so I thought I'd share a little information that just came to me from Captain Stillinger. When Red River 44 went down in Iraq in September, Captain Robert C. Vallejo was on board and was killed. I am happy to be able to announce that last Friday evening at 5:14 PM, his son, Robert Cale Vallejo, III was born. He was 5 pounds, 12 ounces and is 19 inches tall. Mom and son are doing great and are home from the hospital. Below is a photo of the newest member of the battalion. I know all of us in the N. TX PGR are happy for them and wish them nothing but the best. This play was written and is performed by veteran actor James McEachin, whom you will recognize from television and movies. Mr. McEachin is, himself, a veteran of Korea, where he was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. The performance will be at Casa Manana in Fort Worth on February 14, 2009 at 7:00 PM. In attendance will be several of the original Tuskegee Airmen as well as veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Complimentary tickets will be available for PGR members to attend the performance. Details on the ticket availability are currently being worked out. Regular ticket prices are $25 and $50. Proceeds from this event will go to the CRP Future Pilots Flight School. This is a wonderful opportunity for the PGR to not only pay tribute to members, living and dead, of this storied WWII unit but to also honor veterans from current operations. I encourage everyone to click on this link - http://www.casamanana.org/broadway/events.html and visit the site that will give you some information on the play and to also visit the actor's web site where there is information about his acting, writing and military career. Below I have included, from his web site, a newspaper article that describes the situation in Korea where he was wounded and a bit of information where you can see that he is now an official ambassador for the US Army Reserve, with a protocol rank of Major General, due to his patriotic activities. Additional details on this mission will be provided as they become available. A head count of riders who would like tickets may be necessary as the event draws closer so the organizers can adequately plan. Thank you all for what you continue to do. Additional information is below. Steve Lucas Deputy State Captain North Texas PGR October 2nd, 2005: At the recommendation of Major Ernest Parker of OCAR, James McEachin returns to service as an Army Reserve Ambassador for the United States Army Reserves. Known for his appearances and speeches on behalf of the military and various Veterans' groups, the actor/author's nomination came from Major General Robert Ostenberg of the 63rd Regional Readiness Command and appointment by Lieutenant General James R. I know that Mike and Barbara and everyone in Wichita Falls have been working very hard on this for a long time and it's going to be well worth the trip just to be involved. Steve Lucas Deputy State Captain North Texas PGR From: Weldermike at aol.com [mailto:Weldermike at aol.com] Sent: Sunday, February 15, 2009 8:48 PM To: undisclosed-recipients: Subject: Iwo Jima Reunion Update Saturday morning February 21st. Staging will be at two places: For those riding in and wanting to warm up and grab a bite after arriving in town, staging will be at the McDonalds located at 1412 Holliday Road in Wichita Falls, TX. KSU from that point will be at 9:15 for the five minute ride to the Hotel. For those wishing to go directly to the hotel we will stage at 9:30 in the north parking lot of the Howard Johnson's Plaza Hotel located at 401 Broad Street in Wichita Falls,TX. This is the location of the ceremonies. The Flag Line will be set up inside the hallway of the hotel between the lobby and the conference room where the re-enactment ceremony will be taking place. We will be assisted in the Flag Line this year by Boy Scout Troop 15. Once the survivors and their families are seated we will then join them in the conference room for the speeches and the re-enactment. As we all know, these heroes are getting to be fewer and fewer each year, so let's not miss a rare chance to meet and visit with these men and their families! ____________________________________________________________________________ ______________ After the re-enactment we are having a meet and greet at the Jalapeno Tree located at 2927 Southwest Parkway in Wichita Falls from 11:00 till 2:30. They are planning an all you can eat buffet of fajitas and the fixins for approximately $10 per person plus drinks although we will also be able to order items form the menu for those that prefer to do so. We would like an approximate head count so the restaurant will have an idea of how much food to prepare. So please if you can drop a note to Cecil Yoder at c-b-y at sbcglobal.net, Weldermike at aol.com or BRBJO at aol.com. You may also call either Barbara at 940-642-5324 or me at 940-224-2872.There are also will be a raffle to raise expense money for water, plaques and things like that for this area. ____________________________________________________________________________ __________________ At 3:00 PM we will rally back at the hotel for a fly over and missing man formation by the Texas Twisters, a group of T-34 airplanes. This should be an awesome show! Also during the flyover there will be a WWII Veteran and his son playing Echo Taps. ____________________________________________________________________________ ___________________ The area weather forecast at this time is for a low Saturday morning in the upper 30's and a high of 68 that afternoon, but we all know how the weather can change in North Texas. **************************************************************************** ************************************************************************ In addition, David Hall with his traveling Liberty Bell is scheduled to be on Base at Sheppard Elementary Friday morning at 9:00 and at Jefferson Elementary at 1 that afternoon. The funeral service for Mr. Jones is scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM and the staging for Master Chief Tripplett is at 1:45 PM. If everything happens right on time with the first mission, traffic cooperates, everybody eats a late breakfast, etc., there is a good chance someone may be able to make the entirety of both missions. In keeping with our motto, however, of Semper Gumby - always flexible - let's remember to keep our individual options open and remember our obligation to do the best we can to honor both of these very deserving patriots. Rushing around all over the metroplex and possibly taking chances is not safe and I don't believe it is what either of these men would want us to do. We cannot honor the service of anyone if we don't get there ourselves. We never want to distract in any way from any mission of which we are a part and I think that hearing of the wreck of a PGR member who was rushing to a mission would certainly be a distraction to the family and the riders, not to mention the loved ones of the rider themselves, and is certainly something we want to avoid. I am not saying it's not possible to attend and participate in both missions tomorrow. I am encouraging everyone to please be wise, be safe and let's make sure we're together as one to honor as many more as we are called upon to do. Thank you for all you have done and all you continue to do, and I'll see you tomorrow. Picture those as your motorcycles. Picture yourselves in the hospital. These were trained professionals at what they do. Not an untrained bunch of folks belonging to an escort company that we ride with so often, but trained police officers working off duty. We've ridden in escorts run by police officers and know just how good, efficient and professional they are. Below that are the escort companies. Below that are people like us who would try to do what they do. This story and video brings in living color a reminder of why we have no business trying to do what they do, and why we have no intention of starting. Please take 5 minutes out of your day and visit the page, read the brief story and watch the news report. I never want to see a car parked on a PGR motorcycle or see a car with a dent in the hood where a PGR rider struck it with his/her body as they bounced off of it. For those of you who remember the television show "Hill Street Blues," you may remember the daily briefing with Sgt. Phil Esterhaus. Few of the officers paid a whole lot of attention during the briefing but he always made sure to get their full attention before he said his famous line in each episode. Do you remember? He said; "Hey, hey, HEY!!! Let's be careful out there." Here's the link. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local &id=6671281 Thank you all. Fears - February 28, 2009 Message-ID: <008e01c99897$53578ca0$fa06a5e0$@net> Ladies and Gentlemen, Additional information regarding the mission for Mr. Fears has just been received from Ride Captain Wendy Ingersoll. Please see below for important information. A big thanks to Wendy for obtaining this for us. Thank you. Steve Lucas Deputy State Captain North Texas PGR Additional information for mission for Dennis R. Fears, USN Veteran, 28 Feb 09. After talking with the family tonight, we received additional information that we feel needs to be passed along. First of all, they are expecting upwards of 300+ vehicles - mostly motorcycles - for this service. Mr. Fears has ridden for 30+ years and with many different groups, clubs, organizations, you name it. The American Legion is first and foremost in this mission so they will be the ones heading the procession. Parking at the Bethel Temple for the service will be on paved parking lot, however, parking at the Watts Chapel for interment will be challenging, to say the least. There is a large area just to the left of the burial site that will be available, but we are going to leave that for the family and friends of the family. We will be parking on somewhat packed pea-gravel, so take this into consideration when making your plans. Also, we were informed that the service may last 1-1/2 to 2 hours as they plan on having a time for personal comments. I am under the impression that they are expecting at least 500 people, so the personal comments may take some time. There will be time to grab a quick bite to eat before you need to be at the cemetery, but we do plan on having everyone back at the cemetery no later than an hour after the start time of the service. Here are the links to the sites for Bethel Temple and Watts Chapel: Bethel Temple Watts Chapel Any questions, please call.
